Big Fluffy TomCat

Big Fluffy Cat

In 2003 shortly after we moved to the Wenas valley, my friends mother had a wild kitten and was looking for a home for him so we said sure we'll take him. She eventually caught the kitten, Jim went and picked him up, he was a cute lil long haired orange tabby with orange eyes and big white paws, his left paw had one orange spot marking on top. We named him Morris his nickname Babbs. He sure was a wild one, hid in the closet under the bed you name it, tho he did allow us to him to hold him for a short time. He eventually became tame.

After a couple weeks had passed, one morning Jim woke up went outside and saw the little orange kitten on the driveway pavement he had picked him up brought him to the back door and laid him down on the back porch, he woke me and said honey i think Morris got hit by a car, so i went to his side and his little legs were sprawled out behind him and he meowed, it was so sad to see him that way so i picked him up carefully and brought him to the closet and laid him down on a sweatshirt.

It didn't look like he was going to make it. I debated weather to call our friend Josh over here and well you know take care of him. I know i should have but didn't, the poor lil tabby suffered about 4 hours guess i was hoping he'd pull out of it. His last breaths were about 3pm that day, my kids and i was by his side and yes we all cried it was sooo sad. After he had passed i picked him up in my arms and carried him to the garage with the kids following me, tears running down our cheeks to tell Jim we got to bury him.

That night when Jim was getting ready for bed he saw something run out of the closet and darted under the bed he had to take a double look knelt down looked under and it was Morris! This had frightened him, next thing Jim woke me and he had a lil orange kitten in his hands said honey look its Morris! i sat up quickly rubbing my eyes and shocked i said, "no its not, it can't be we buried him today!" I was a lil scared to hold him shivers ran down my spine, OMG as i held him he was definitely real, i brought him into the kids room woke them and showed them they were just as shocked as i was to see him! After the shock wore off we all went back to bed with Babbs cuddled by my head, still believing this can't be true, i was so happy.

So the little orange kitten that had crawled to the house that day wasn't even ours, we never knew who he belonged to. Come to think of it he was just a hair bigger than Morris, what we should have looked for was the orange marking on his left paw didn't even think of it at the time as we had just gotten the kitten a couple weeks earlier.

As the years went on Morris grew to be a big cat! My sister told me he was most likely part coon cat his paws were huge. Morris did get used to the other pets he and Nola would play and run throughout the house jump on the couch i'd have to shoo them off every once and awhiles. One day he just didnt return for awhile come to find out he'd been hanging at the neighbors across the road, i told the neighbor what his name was. He would come and go now and then but it got to where the dogs would chase him around and he'd end up in a tree every time he came home so he stayed away most days hanging at the neighbors with their many cats of more than 10 lol.

I always used to see him out in the yard by the bushes so i would take my coffee go sit out on the front porch and call out to him he'd eventually wander on over tho a lil leary that the dogs would come chase but they'd be in the pen. He'd let me pet him and he'd roll over on the cement side to side, he'd come in the house then after awhile back outside and he'd be off again wouldn't see him for another few more days. Some days he'd return spending time under the house, I'd go sit by the back opening to the faucet and lure him out to feed him, and pet him.

Within the past couple of month i thought and wondered where he'd been, because i haven't seen the Big O Tom out and about. Recently i noticed a smell coming up through the heater vents i thought oh no a mouse was in down in it somewhere rotting YUK!. Within the last couple days the oder got stronger EWE it was mainly in the kitchen, dining and laundry room areas. Finally yesterday i told Jim you gotta go under the house and check things out so him and Andrew put coveralls on got the flood light and went under the house they came back out and Jim said he saw something orange, i knew right then it was my Babbs, they got a garbage bag, shovel and rake and went back under, sure enough it was Morris he was up in some insulation where he had laid through out the years, near the kitchen area. He must have been there since winter poor Babbs :( When they came out with the bag Jim opened it and i sadly saw the orange big tom Jim reached in to look at his paws and the orange spot on his left paw was visible.

We will never know what happened to Morris/Babbs. One thing we do know is that he knew where his home was and he knew where to go and lay for his last days, knowing he was not laying out along side the road as you see some felines hit by cars. Now i think times when i cooked dinners he probably so got a whiff before he passed. I wished i had known he was near, he is in kitty heaven now safe and sound, with the other little orange kitten that wasn't ours.

We buried him by one of the many pine trees and the bushes he'd like to go under in the front yard.
Rest in Peace Babbs 2003-2007
