Last year Seattle-based filmmaker Sandy Cioffi and her crew were imprisoned by the Nigerian military while making the documentary film Sweet Crude -- and their footage from that trip was confiscated. They went on to finish the film and have been screening at film festivals around the world to rave reviews.
View the trailer here and come out and see this powerful story at the Ellensburg Film Festival. Screening October 4, 6:00 pm at the Music Building Recital Hall, Central Washington U, Ellensburg. Q&A with Producer Tammi Sims, one of those imprisoned, follows the film.
From Sweet Crude's review in Variety magazine: “A movie about crime and shame, Sweet Crude is also a classic example of urgent, righteous-indignation agitprop cinema that succeeds in being not just angry, but art. …painterly shooting, funk-ethereal music and frighteningly gentle narration…blend to seductive psychological effect, suggesting gossamer dreams about paradise lost, with an undertone of unrefined fury.”
