Angela Brown: DQ Student Athlete of the Month for March

By Alan Sillence

She is a heck of a lot smarter than you or me. Bowls a lot better too. Oh yeah, and she can sing like a bird.

Sounds like we hit the nail right on the head with our first KIMA Dairy Queen Athlete of the Month.

Angela Brown can knock 'em down like few of us will ever be able to do. With a 175 average, the West Valley senior led her Rams to a third place finish at the state tournament in Lynnwood.

Angela, the only bowler from our state picked to compete at this weekend's All American High School Championships in Michigan, alley fighting for more than $10,000 in college scholarships.

Angela is ready to rock and roll her game all the way to the college level and, in the meantime, keep doing something Ms. Brown's also pretty decent at--singing

"I'd like to major in music performance," says Brown. "I've looked into a few schools. The two I'm deciding between have both bowling and music"

A frequent performer at sporting events throughout the valley, Angela's angelic voice sets a winning tone. The girl can sing. No doubt. And, colleges hot after her, are singing her praises. Throw in a 3.95 grade point average and, I think we call that a real catch.

"She's always striving for the best, " says April Kivett, West Valley Rams' Bowling Coach. "Willing, working hard. She wants to keep improving. She's just an excellent kid."

"Getting into technical stuff with music is pretty tough," says Brown. "But, so far bowling has taken more skill from me."

When asked, "what are you better at?"
"I don't know," laughed Brown, "I hope that I'm good at both."
