Sunfair Invitational Recap
By Keith LeventhalThe 36th annual Sunfair Invitational brought over 3000 cross country runners to Yakima on Saturday. The competition was intense, with several state champions from all over the region in town. But, our local runners held their own pretty well. Let's take a quick look at how some of our area's boys runners did. The top local finisher in the elite heat was Kamiakin's Anthony Armstong, who finished in 7th place. Aaron Nelson from Walla Walla was just behind him, and Ike's Timothy Cummings also finished in the top 20. In the team competition, the Kamiakin boys finished 4th, while Ike ended up in 13th. We also had several area girls who had a good day. In the elite heat, Hanford's Erin Hegarty finished 10th, West Valley's Audrey Urlacher was just behind her in 13th, and Sammi Blodgett from Wapato crossed the line in 16th place. There were also 2 teams that cracked the top 10...Richland finished 6th, while Eisenhower was 9th. And congratulations to all of our runners who placed in any of the 7 heats. |
