Yakima's own Brooklyn in the house. At the Hall of Fame. At Safeco.

dropping excitement for these kids stepping on to the grass at Safeco Field. Checking out their Mariner heroes at batting practice before the M's historic 5,000th game Wednesday against the world champion Boston Red Sox.......in awe....and, just the start of the adventure of a lifetime for the Brooklyn Baseball Club of Yakima. The first stop for the the twelve year olds from the valley on their way to Cooperstown, New York, to play in the annual hall of fame tournament.....and to visit the hallowed baseball museum. Mariner pitcher sean green, made the same trip to Cooperstown himself as a youngster....thrilling our brooklyn guys by taking the time to answer their questions and talk about what the hall of fame experience meant to him.

Sean Green "There's a lot of history. It's neat to see that the game's changed over the years. But, it's still the same game."

The Brooklyn Baseball Club, unique to our valley......teaches kids about the game....and a lot about life. Based on the philosphy of the 1955 brooklyn dodgers......the boys schooled in the rich history of the game. They told me they've been working their tails off for the past year with fundrasing projects to make this cool trip possible.

Josiah, Cameron and Erik "i'm excited to go to the hall of fame to see all the people inducted. It's going to be exciting to meet all the players who've played. And, just be there with everyone. I've never been to New York before. Excited to travel all the way down there."

And, just to add a little spice to this rich recipe of a story.......the brooklyn club getting to meet the one and only dave niehause, the radio and tv voice of the Mariners since the teams' first game 32 years ago. Niehaus, himself being inducted into the broadcasting wing of the hall of fame at this weekend's ceremonies.

Dave Niehaus "you might be bumping into Willie mays for example. All kinds of crazy people like me. I wish you well."
