Yakima Steelers on to Regionals
By Alan SillenceNobody dreamed they'd win the state title. Now, they've advanced to regionals, and, they're expected to win. Pressure! Bill Harris "Stay with it. Stay with it. We still have the play at home. Nice job. We got the out. Don't get it in your head that we have to come home every time. Make sure we get an out." Bill Harris, coaching his Yakima Steelers Blue team......He's tough. These ladies can take it. The U-16 state champions....winning the title last weekend in Selah......on to Kent Friday for regionals. Bill Harris "Is this a good bunch? It's a very good bunch. How are they going to do over there? We're going to do well." Doing well at regionals now expected.......But, if you had asked the Steelers players at the start of the summer season about taking the state crown and then being talked up as one of the favorites at this coming weekend's monster tourneyi on the west side.....they would have laughed. With ten out of eleven players new this season.......the Yakima Steelers got off to a rough start....but, smoothed out.....and few have stopped them since. Tori Slobig & Emily Harple "Expect to get this far? No. At the beginning of the season we were shaky. Another season of new people. I was the only returning player so , oh no. New girls i had to get used to. You were the only returning one? Yeah. I'm brand new. Is that a lot of responsibility for you? A little. But, yeah. Being one of the pitchers. It was difficult at first. Get along with them good. It's been fun. As the new kid you listen? Oh yeah, I had to. In order to cooperate and be able to play. Make it all work out? Yeah." |
