Move over guys........make room on the mats.......for the women......wrestlers..

Yakima valley community college, trail blazers in the state of washington.....look out......adding women to its men's wrestling program....

Mike Schmitt "Just with the little bit of informatiion that's been out there of YVCC possibly having women, nationwide we're getting letters and calls from coaches and young ladies that want to participate in this sport."

A sport that has exploded since its introduction in the 2004 olympic games.........adding women's wrestling to yvcc's existing men's program won't ease the school's title nine entanglements.......and, it will still have to operate within the given budget. To the rescue, the Parker Youth and Sports Foundation's scholarship money to recruit women wrestlers......five grand.

Tomas Ybarra "Without that infusion of private support, this opportunity would not be possible"

It's possible with its going wild growth in popularity, women's wrestling still small in numbers in our state could become a sanctioned sport at the junior college level in the future....in the meantime its full speed ahead at yakima valley.....bringing on board a highly touted women's wrestling coach veteran to volunteer next season....
it's going be a big assist to men's wrestling at yvcc too...with much bigger colleges that wouldn't otherwise want to grapple with yakima valley........ready now, with the addition of women's wrestling.....to get it on with the yaks...

Mike Schmitt "Oklahoma City University told us that. Cumberland out of Kentucky told us that. When they weren't terribly interested in coming just to participate just against our men. But, having the opportunity to compete against both. They're willing to make some extra travel to come out here and visit us at our home."
