Yakima Honors Brooklyn Baseball

Brooklyn Baseball Club. Half a dozen years of local success.

But, what makes the magic of Brooklyn work in the Valley?

Baseball in January. The Brooklyn Academy in Yakima.....modeled after the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers....a team of impeccable intregity when the sport was played for honor...and not for the money. Brooklyn here jam packed with kids like Max Turnquist who just can't get enough of the game.

Kim Turnquist "He loves Brooklyn. This is his place to come. His home away from home. He knows when he's here that he's somebody and he matters."

And, that's what matters at Brooklyn....Not only to teach these youngsters about America' game....but, also about the skills needed to succeed off the field.

Travis Hansen " It's a holistic approach. So you're dealing with baseball. But, you're also dealing with teaching kids to grow into young men."

Some of the Brooklyn teams already filled for 2012. But, the club is recruiting for the 13 and 14 year old teams. Just about every parent I've talked to is confident their Brooklyn kids have gotten a big jump on their competition now....and in preparing for the next level.

Michelle Dixon "It's not if they're going to college to play baseball. It's when they go to college to play baseball. And, Rich really helps to plant that in their minds."

Dane Alexander "The love of the game and their desire to continue to improve has been a blessing and something all these kids can take with them wherever they go from here."

Moses Alexander "If one kid gets down some of the other kids on the Brooklyn team are going to help them get up."
