Brooklyn Baseball a hit in Yakima
Welcome back. Bringing you sports this evening from the Ag Expo at the Sun Dome.
KIMA, proud to be a part sponsor of this great event.
The Cougs and Husky B-ball guys visiting the Pac Twelve newbies tonight. WSU at Utah. The U-Dub matching up with Colorado.
The future of a YVCC hoop star......and the hopes for another Yaks title up in the air tonight.
It's not an exaggeration at all to label Brandi Henton....a Yakima Valley superstar. The transfer from Division One Long Beach state, seen here in action earlier in the season had been averaging nearly 30 points a game for the then top ranked Yaks until she injured her knee in a tournament championship match against Clackamas in Oregon two weeks ago. Today, an MRI on her leg was not definitive....No diagnosis yet. Yakima coach Cody Butler told me they're weighing different options. We hope for the best for Brandi. For her health....and for what she means to the Yaks chances of repeating as champions. As Coach Butler has said.....in this league, Brandi Henton may be the best player to have ever stepped on the court. )))
A big thank you to Kellen Moore for boosting up Boise State coach Chris Peterson's paycheck.
The Prosser native's incredible success with the Broncos making Smurf Turf football the envy of many across the land.
The Boise big shots lovin it so much they're giving Peterson a raise of nearly 400-grand a season, putting him over the two million a year mark.
BSU hoping to sign the Broncos boss to a new five year contract to keep him from wandering away to even more lucrative deals.
Peterson's record with the Broncos, 73-6. Thanks again Kellen. )))
A new year......new hope for the Mariners. Believe it or not....Fanfest at Safeco Field just a few weeks away.
Here in the Valley.....it's baseball all year around.
Wall to wall ball at Yakima's Brooklyn Club, now Academy. Brooklyn's all about teaching kids the fundamentals of this great game....appreciating its rich history.....and molding boys into positive achieving young men.
Rich Lindros "We've changed our philosophy from a club to an academy. More focussed on training and development. Both on the physical skills level and mental game."
With eighty kids in the program, Brooklyn still fields four teams with cream of the crop coaching staffs. And, instructors with pretty darn impressive resumes...Ellensburg High grad Brent Wyatt getting in some time with the kids....before its his time to head to Detroit's spring training camp in Florida. Brent will be on the Tigers' AA Erie roster this coming season.
Nat sound ( brent instructing )
Brent Wyatt "Love working with kids. See them get better, not only on the field, But, I feel like I have a lot to offer to kids in life."
Brooklyn boasts three current club alumni going to college on baseball scholarships...a fourth soon. And, in a few years, Washington State may be inking Ryan Bumstead...a life long WSU fan. He lives in Pullman but every weekend his dad drives him to Brooklyn in Yakima
Ryan and Tom Bumstead "Pretty disastisfied with local baseball in Pullman so we decided to look for a place to expand his baseball experience and to improve his baseball skills. Talking with several of the other parents and kids that were on the team this looks like a good thing to do.
Working? Satisfied? Ya, very satisfied. Why is that? Just the high intensity level of this program. Outdoes everything that's been done in Pullman."
The Brooklyn magic.....tomorrow. The Ag Expo here at the Sun Dome all day Friday as well. Jim.
