Great local coach going to the Hall of Fame
[Anchor:ONE SHOT ALAN]
I have had the honor of meeting many Hall of Famers.
None, more deserving than this.
Anything you ever wanted to know about Davis High Pirate Pride......proudly displayed in the basement of Pete Orgill's Yakima home. More than three decades worth of memories for Pete....
three times named league coach of the year. And, most deservingly in ceremonies at Safeco Field this weekend......Pete Orgill will be inducted into the State High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
Pete Orgill "It's really an honor to be selected. It's a lot of years of baseball. In a great school. And, if I had to do it all over again I'd start right now and do it again. Been a great life for me. People drive by sometimes and say man I feel sorry for you. You're always out on that baseball field and I go I feel sorry for you guys. I'm doing right what I should be doing. So, I am totally thrilled that I'm going to be accepted into this Hall of Fame on Saturday."
A former state coach of the year, Pete has taught in the Yakima school district for more than 30 years....And, has given so much back to our community. His life saving CPR classes, legendary. A board member for Yakima Youth Baseball....as well as countless volunteer hours Coach Orgill has put in with his youth baseball camps keeping the sport alive and well here for future generations.
Pete Orgill "The wins, losses weren't as important to be as watching some of these kids go on and be successful in life. I get to see two of my kids, one go to Harvard, one go to Stanford and pitch. I'll take that to my grave with me. That was awesome."
And, the Orgill legacy awesome. Son Pete...a star on the Pirate baseball field before taking his talents to the U-Dub leading Washington to two Pac 10 titles. Daughter Katy, a three sport standout at Davis...and then volleyball captain at CWU.
Pete Orgill "My kids, whether you take athletics out or not have made me proud every day they've been alive. But, to see them go on and compete in athletics. See them go on and coach, get their teaching degrees and coach at a high level. Peter is coaching at Sammamish High School. Katy, you guys all saw what she did with West Valley this week, that great West Valley volleyball team, 35-0, state champions. Like I said, I've had a good athletic life watching my kids. And, watching my ballplayers play."
