Former #1 Player Wows them in Yakima
A tennis player's dream. A lesson from a former number one player in the world.
If only we could all guard the net like Mats Wilander. The incredible Swede. Winner of numberous grandslam events. The 46 year old.........still got game. And, so much knowledge about the game to pass on....
Mats Wilander "Everybody thinks well here's where you stand. No. It's not where you stand. Like Nadal, you can't even see him on the tv screen sometimes. He's so far behind. Tennis is all about moving in, using your body weight forwards on the shot."
Mats Wilander "Life is really good. Still life in tennis. Just traveling the world and teaching tennis. Doing some commentary and playing some events. What do you get out of this? Oh, I think the reward is seeing people having a good time. If you can teach them something, one timp here or there and they pick it up and it actually works, that's really the reward."
And, the rewards for these players....invaluable.......tutored by the best. The traveling Mats Wilander on Wheels tour in the Valley for a couple of days. Days these appreciative pupils at the Yakima Tennis Club will remember for the rest of their lives. Learning from a true pro. and gettIng to know the man. Mats Wilander.....once ruled the tennis world.......now he's traveling much of the world.....spreading the gospel of tennis to the faithful.
Slivia and Cindy "It was just so much fun. I really enjoyed it. Every minute of it. The pace was great. Gret experience. We have fun and we learn a lot. Did they run you ragged? Ran us ragged definitely. I still have a little bit left. All worth it? Very. Absolutely, very much so."
Mats Wilander "And, you want to wait to go that way with every shot. Never backwards. Never backwards unless you don't have a choice. Here we go."
