SEATTLE (AP) - The University of Washington basketball women's team has signed in-state recruits Mercedes Wetmore and Marjorie Heard plus Ashley Moore of California to letters of intent.

Coach Tia Jackson said Thursday that Wetmore, point guard for two-time Washington state champion Riverside High School in Auburn, is "savvy."

Some rate Wetmore among the nation's best at her position.

Heard is a 6-foot-1 forward from Glacier Peak High School in Snohomish. Jackson values her for her physical style of play inside.

Heard's high school coach, Brian Hill, says she has aggressiveness reminiscent of another native of Snohomish - ex-Huskies men's star Jon Brockman.

Moore, a 5-10 scorer from Vallejo, Calif., was the first of Jackson's 2010 recruiting class to commit. The coach says Moore has exceptional athleticism.
