DuRocher Leaves CWU
By Keith Leventhal
The Central Washington football team is just 11 days away from playing their first game of the season.
One of the biggest issues facing the team this summer was replacing all-everything quarterback Mike Reilly. And now, just days before the season begins, the Wildcats have lost one of their top QBs. Former Washington quarterback Johnny DuRocher was trying to make a comeback at Central and he had been competing for the starting job. But, late Monday, the team said DuRocher has left the program because of groin and elbow injuries. In a statement, DuRocher said he was grateful for the opportunity to play with the Wildcats. DuRocher played for UW back in 2006, but after being knocked out of a game with a concussion, doctors found a non-cancerous brain tumor. That seemed to be the end of his football career, but he was cleared in the spring to play again, and was given a chance at Central. It now looks like redshirt freshman Ryan Robertson will be Central's starting quarterback when they open the season on August 29th at Mesa State. |
