All American Wildcats

ROLLA, Mo. (May 26) -- Central Washington University seniors Kelsey Haupert (Olympia, Wash./Black Hills HS) and Samantha Petrich (Chehalis, Wash./W.F. West HS) can add another accolade to their impressive resumes, as both players were named to the 2011 Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-American First Team, announced Thursday.

Petrich, who won Daktronics West Region Player of the Year honors, finished as the runner-up to Katie Martin of Grand Valley State University (Mich.) for Ron Lenz National Player of the Year honors. The shortstop batted .455 with 13 home runs and 41 runs batted in while fielding at a .942 percentage with 190 defensive chances at shortstop. She set Great Northwest Athletic Conference records for on-base percentage (.579) and walks (36), and finished her two-year CWU career with a .413 batting average, 29 home runs, and 105 RBI.

Haupert was named to the Daktronics All-American team for the second straight year, improving upon her second-team accolades from her junior season. As a senior, she led the NCAA Division II with 21 home runs, driving in 53 for the Wildcats while also batting .451. She became the school's career home run leader (39 in just two seasons), and finished with a career .399 batting average and 118 runs batted in.

Both players had previously earned first-team all-West Region honors and were all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selections as well. Petrich was also voted as the 2010-11 CWU Female Athlete of the Year.

Central Washington was one of two schools with more than one representative on the 13-player Division II All-American First Team, joining Rollins College (Fla.) with that distinction. The Wildcats have had four All-Americans over the past two seasons, including Haupert's honors in both 2010 and 2011.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
