Cats Add More Hoop Power

ELLENSBURG (Apr. 21) -- Brandon Magee has signed with the Central Washington University men’s basketball team and join the 2011-12 squad that will begin play next winter, CWU head coach Greg Sparling announced Thursday.

“Brandon comes from a great program with a great coach,” Sparling said. “He is a versatile and physical player that can score, rebound, and defend extremely well.”

Magee, a 6-foot-4, 205 pound junior guard, prepped at Bethel High School in Graham, Wash., and transfers to Central Washington from Tacoma Community College after spending his freshman season at Eastern Arizona College. Under the tutelage of former CWU assistant coach Carl Howell, Magee averaged 16.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in his only season at TCC, earning first-team all-NWACC West Region recognition. His season was highlighted by a 27-point, 10-rebound performance against Grays Harbor College, a game in which he was 10 of 12 from the field. The Spanaway, Wash., native helped the Titans to a 26-3 record, 16-0 in conference record, but missed eight of the final nine games of the season due to injury.

Central Washington finished the 2010-11 season with a 26-4 record and as the top seed in the NCAA Division II West Region tournament. With the additions of Magee and fellow TCC teammates Jordan Coby and Chris Holmes, who signed to play basketball at CWU during the early signing period in November 2010, the Wildcats will look to defend their Great Northwest Athletic Conference title in 2011-12.
