High school student Stephanie Dufour didn't expect a yes, but she had to ask Seattle Seahawks tight end Luke Willson anyway.
"I know we're just meeting and it's a couple months away," she said (see video below), "but I want to have a hotter prom date than all my friends, so I was wondering if you would go to prom with me."
The Super Bowl champion said yes.
"Usually we get weekends off, so if I can swing it I'll come back and I'll go to prom with you," said Willson, who visited his old high school, St. Thomas of Villanova College, outside of Toronto on Thursday. "You're going to have to tell me what color your dress is."
The gym full of students erupted in cheers. Dufour appeared speechless.
"I thought he was just going to shrug it off and start laughing," she told the CBC afterward. "I was definitely not expecting that answer."
Willson is from Canada, going to high school in the Toronto suburbs and playing club football in Essex, Ontario, south of Detroit. Seattle drafted him in 2013 out of Rice University, and as a rookie he made 20 catches for 272 yards and one touchdown for the world-champion Seahawks this past season. He added two grabs for 17 yards in the Super Bowl.
