Dust Devils Finally Beat Salem-Keizer, Yakima Loses High Scoring Game
By Keith Leventhal
The Tri-City Dust Devils and Salem-Keizer Volcanoes have already played 9 times this year.
And the Volcanoes have won 7 of those games, including Friday night's embarrassing 16-1 win. The good news for Dust Devils fans is that Saturday night's game between those two teams would be the last time they'd meet during the regular season. And, in honor of that, our own morning weatherman, Troy Barrett was on hand to throw out the first pitch. He must be a good luck charm for the team. Tri-City scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning. And that would turn out to be enough. The Dust Devils break their 3-game losing streak as they win 6-4. Tri-City is off on Sunday. On Monday, they'll open up a 5-game series in Eugene. The Yakima Bears also came into Saturday night on a 3-game streak...but there's was a 3-game winning streak. Friday night, they won on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th. Saturday night, they wrapped up their series with Everett. And there would be no late-inning heroics this time. The Bears do score 4 runs in the final 2 innings...but they still fall 11-6. Clayton Conner hit his league-leading 8th home run, and Ryan Wheeler had a homer and 4 RBIs in the loss. Yakima is also off on Sunday. They're back in action Monday when they kick off a series in Vancouver. |
