AF2 Hopefully Coming to Yakima In 2009

By Keith Leventhal

While the Tri-Cities Fever had their season opener on Friday night, the Yakima SunDome sat quiet.

There was an AF2 game there last week as the Fever played a preseason game against Spokane.

But, since no local ownership group has stepped up to the plate, Yakima doesn't have its own team.

However, that may be changing.

The AF2 President says he expects a team to be in Yakima by the beginning of the 2009 season.

AF2 President Jerry Kurz says, "Since we've been around 22 years, we don't have to say, unless we have a team this year, right now, tomorrow, its not going to happen, we have the distinct advantage of saying, if it doesn't work this year, we'll look for next year, so we believe that we'll be up and operational in Yakima next year."

Kurz also said he's very happy with the facilities in Yakima and the support he's gotten from the city.

He says the only piece that's missing right now is a local owner, and he hopes that will be resolved in the near future.
