YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima's Union Gospel Mission plans to build a new medical clinic.

It would triple the size of the existing clinic. The mission already raised two-thirds of the money needed.

The medical clinic would be connected to the mission's dental center. New transitional housing would be built on top of both clinics.

The mission's director says all of it would mean a healthier community.

"All of the medical professionals that are volunteering are really looking forward to having a facility that they can work in and see not just the people they're seeing, but even an expanded number of people," said Rick Phillips.

Volunteer doctors at the mission saw more than 10,000 patients last year. Construction on the new clinic is expected to begin in spring of next year.
