Yakima moves forward with permanent downtown bike patrols
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima is moving forward with permanent bike patrols after testing them earlier this month.

You can expect to see officers on bikes regularly this Spring.

YPD is still determining how many officers will be assigned to the unit.

One idea is to have teams of two working different shifts and put Student Resource Officers on bikes during the summer when schools are on break.

Officers will be on bikes during next month's First Friday.

There hasn't been a bike patrol in Yakima since the early 90's.
