Yakima hospital receives wagon filled with toys

Yakima hospital receives wagon filled with toys
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital got a new set of wheels today. This one, made for kids.

Solarity Credit Union presented two checks worth $22,000 to Memorial. Along with a Radio Flyer Wagon filled with toys.

The pediatric unit will use it to carry kids to and from treatment. And, take them on field trips around the hospital.

The hospital staff hopes to make their stay a little more fun.

"Play therapy is a very important part of a child's recovery and hospitalization, because it diverts their attention from the things that we do, like drawing blood or starting an IV, or physical exams," said pediatric nurse-manager, Linda Haralson.

Solarity bought the wagon at a charity auction. The checks include donations from other credit unions throughout the state.
