YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Cowiche Canyon Conservancy wants you to take more notice of butterflies. It's tracking butterfly migration from the conservancy to the Cascades and back.

Volunteers tagged butterflies Thursday. The tags are stickers with a serial number and email address. If you see a tagged butterfly, the conservancy hopes you'll call the office. That way, it can track where the butterflies are.

A first-time tagger said he was excited to be a part of the project.

"I'm excited enough to get out here as often as I possibly can, even in the rain," said Holt Williamson.

Last year, tagged butterflies were not spotted when they returned in the fall.

The conservancy hopes to expand this project to students.
