YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Yakima County can spend five million dollars on affordable housing developments.

The State Department of Commerce is awarding the money. Five dozen units will be built in Granger. Another 30 in Toppenish.

The Yakima Housing Authority will oversee the project there. The head of the organization says affordable housing benefits farm workers.

"The number one issue for us to get labor in this area is housing for farm workers," said Lowel Krueger. "So, when you take a look at or talk to the workers themselves, they're saying that's the number one decision as to whether they come through here."

The new units will probably be ready sometime late next year.
