YVCC students test quadcopter built to monitor forest restoration

YVCC students test quadcopter built to monitor forest restoration
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Students at YVCC got to see their efforts put into action Thursday. They built a quadcopter to monitor restoration work in forests.

The Nature Conservancy and Yakima Valley Community College teamed up on the project. A Go-Pro camera was attached and this is the video it shot from the air.

Students say it was exciting to see it fly.

"Obviously there's going to be kinks,” said student Austin Philipp. “We've crashed it our fair share of times but when it flies successfully especially when it captures the video, it's really fun to see."

The quadcopter will be used to survey the forest before and after restoration. It will measure how dense and large the trees are.
