YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima Valley Community College is dipping into its reserves. It's spending $2.5 million on new equipment and furniture.

YVCC's president says the equipment is needed. That includes new desks to help people with disabilities.

She said the lack of money from the state forced YVCC to use its reserves, but the college can afford it.

"We feel that the reserves can handle this level of expenditures and that it's not going to put us in a dangerous situation in the future," said Linda Kaminski.

President Kaminski said the reserves will be replenished by any budget surpluses in the future.
