Yakima County Sheriff's Office Lt. Brian Winter announced his campaign for county sheriff Tuesday morning in Yakima.
YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Yakima County sheriff's deputy made it official Tuesday: He's running for the top job.

Lieutenant Brian Winter kicked off his campaign for sheriff at the Yakima Valley Hotel and Conference Center.

Winter says his leadership experience in the Marines and with the sheriff's office makes him qualified for the position.

He says, if elected, he would make sure the sheriff's office cooperates more with other law enforcement and firefighting agencies.

"I'm going to work really hard to identify cost savings and efficiencies that we can gain by working more closely together," Winter said.

Winter has been with the Yakima County Sheriff's Office since 1991. He joins YCSO Deputy Steve Changala in the race to replace the retiring Ken Irwin.
