Wapato considers moving out of 100-year-old jail

WAPATO, Wash. -- Wapato is looking to save money by moving out of its 100-year-old jail.
City officials say Wapato wastes $40,000 a year just to heat the jail and police department.
Now, the department could wind up moving into a vacant grocery store on Main Street.
A neighbor we spoke with says the move would be worth it.
"That's an awful lot of money to be spending a building that's falling apart and needs absolute attention," Daniel Chavez said.
Work is being done on the vacant grocery store to pass fire inspections.
