Violence at Transit Center is nothing new

Violence at Transit Center is nothing new
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Because a violent murder happened so close to the Yakima Transit Center, we took another look at how often the center is exposed to violence.

KIMA found out it's actually quite common.

Police say they've been called out there a hundred times this year already. A third of those calls have been for violent crimes.

Police were called to the transit center 130 times last year.

"It's extremely scary, I'm all foot bound. I don't have a car so I'm always down here at the transit center and I have three young kids; two, four and six. So to have them in an area where there's shooting and it's gang-related, it's very scary," said Heather, who uses the bus stop.

Police say assaults are the most common crime at the Yakima Transit Center.
