Victim in Chelan County fatality misidentified

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) - The Chelan County coroner says a man killed in a triple fatality crash near Chelan was misidentified because he carried another man's wallet and identity.

Coroner Wayne Harris says the identity appeared to match the dead man so he notified the family of 24-year-old Fidencio Vargas Gonzalez of East Wenatchee. The Washington State Patrol released his name.

But the family called back Wednesday to say he was alive. He had lost his wallet a couple of months ago.

That leaves Harris trying to identify the dead man. He has fingerprints and a few leads.

Harris was told he was the boyfriend of the 38-year-old Chelan woman who died in the crash on Highway 97A along with her 4-year-old son. But her relatives didn't know the man's name.
