YAKIMA VALLEY - There are new developments in the effort to fight gangs here in Yakima.

KIMA learned the city's Gang Free Initiative program will expand to local communities across the Valley.

Yakima developed an umbrella model for all of the intervention and prevention programs in the area.

The initiative recently joined forces with the county's Gang Commission, Toppenish and Sunnyside.

It will create a one-stop shop for families and police agencies trying to help at-risk children.

"One thing obviously the juvenile department is hoping for is police, instead of bringing them to juvenile detention, will take them to these facilities to get services," said Court Administrator Harold Delia.

Court Administrator Harold Delia says this option would only be available for children involved with minor crimes.

The model only provides broad guidelines, but does not identify the programs needed at the facilities.
