UNION GAP -- Some of your water bills will look different for a couple of months.

Public works crews in Union Gap didn't read the meters in December and January because conditions were too cold.

Because of that, the city sent everyone the same bill for about twenty dollars. That's less than the normal monthly charge for average use.

Mayor Jim Lemon says there's no reason the meters weren't checked last month.

"Every water customer is paying for their meter to be read every month, that's part of their water bill that they pay so there really should be no exception just because of cold weather," said Union Gap Mayor Jim Lemon.

Lemon says it's a good idea to check your meter for leaks or cracks because public works won't get to them for more than 60 days.
