'Two strikes' law sends sex offender to life in prison
YAKIMA, Wash. -- The "two-strikes" law is putting a convicted sex offender behind bars for good. It takes only two sex offenses to get a life sentence for some felons.
James Castillo raped a woman in Wapato back in the late 90's. He was on the run ever since.
Police caught up with him a couple years ago and brought Castillo back to Yakima.
He was been previously convicted of attempted rape as well.
On one hand, I think that we canât assume all people who are âsex offendersâ are evil, and I agree with people who say that this doesnât solve the bigger problem. On the other hand, Iâm a mother, and I would be outraged and terrified if I knew that my daughter was anywhere near a registered sex offender. I live in Bangkok now with my family. Iâm an English teacher. Because Iâm living in a country that is notorious for attracting sexual predators, I would like to have access to a sex offender registry. Thailand lawyers tell me that this isnât currently available, but Iâve heard so many cases of child molestation here that I would like to know if any of my neighbors are sex offenders. We, as parents and concerned people, must continue to be vigilant; these horrible crimes will continue with or without a registry.
