YAKIMA, Wash. -- A pair of Yakima County Deputies were awarded the Medal of Valor. This is given when a deputy goes above and beyond in a life-saving situation.

Deputy Aaron Wuitschick and Deputy Nathan Boyer earned the Medal for their role in a high speed chase last fall. The chase turned into a hostage situation.

Deputies rushed into the home after seeing hostages try to fight off an armed man.

"The best thing you can do is save somebody's life and that's the most honorable part of this job," said Deputy Aaron Wuitschick.

"It is a big deal, but on the other side of it, it's something that law enforcement deals with all the time and it's nice to be appreciated for it," said Deputy Nathan Boyer.

The Yakima County Sheriff says the Medal of Valor has only been awarded eight times since the year 2000 in that agency.
