According to Oregon State Police Trooper Grant Jackson, on October 3, 2013 at approximately 9:50 a.m., a 1990 GMC truck loaded with bales of recycled scrap metal driven by BENJAMIN THOMPSON, age 37, from La Grande, was northbound on Highway 237 near milepost 24. As the truck was negotiating a left curve, THOMPSON lost control and struck the guardrail where the truck overturned.
THOMPSON, who said he was using a lap safety belt, was ejected from the truck and came to rest underneath bales of scrap metal. Firefighters extricated THOMPSON from underneath the metal and he was transported by ambulance to Grande Ronde Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Union County Sheriff's Office, ODOT and Union County-area emergency services. No enforcement action taken.
