TOPPENISH, Wash. -- Some kids from Toppenish Middle School are smart about smart technology. They won a contest for designing an app.

Five students worked together after school on the app called "We Vote."

They competed against 75 other apps and 300 students. The contest is designed to boost interest in computer science.

The students were thrilled to win.

"I didn't know if we were going to be called, and then when they said our name, I just couldn't like believe it," said Joshua Rivera. "I was just like, 'Wait, us?' They called and I went up there, and I was so happy."

Every member of the team got a tablet as a prize. They now plan to put together the code for their app.
