South Hill Road barrier helping reduce crime

South Hill Road barrier helping reduce crime
SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- A barrier on South Hill Road has reduced crime and traffic accidents. The project called Operation Cul-de-sac started last year as a crime-fighting tool.

Sunnyside council members said blocking the street helps block criminals on the run. Concrete barriers were initially put into place. But, they were replaced by a fence for safety reasons. Neighbors said they've seen fewer accidents since it's been in place.

"It was a lot of traffic all the time,” said Waly Gonzales. “It was too much. The kids couldn't even go outside."

Sunnyside said more barriers could be added in places where there's a spike in crime.
