Gunman at large after man is shot in Seattle
SEATTLE -- Police say a man in his 50s was shot early Monday in the city's Belltown neighborhood, and the shooter remains at large.

Witnesses told police they heard two men shouting and then at least two gun shots just before 3 a.m. near the intersection of 2nd and Bell.

The victim stumbled down the street and collapsed a block from where he was shot.

"Heard two shots, and then followed the trail of bloody footprints," said Michael Murphy, who was one of several bystanders who helped provide first aid to the man until medics arrived.

The man was shot at least once in the leg and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

It was not clear what prompted the attack, and no description of the shooter was available.

The latest shooting comes a day after six people were shot at a house party in South Seattle.

A young woman was killed in that incident and police are still looking for the shooters.

Last month, city and federal officials promised to start sending more people to federal prison for gun crimes following several tragic and random shootings in the city, including the deaths of four people at Cafe Racer.
