Sexual assaults dip in Yakima County
YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Action News Crime Tracker learned far fewer people are becoming the victims of sexual assault.

Since 2011 the number of sexual assault cases has plunged by nearly 25 percent. In fact, since January there have only been eight cases in all of Yakima County.

The decline is a welcomed relief to friends of assault victims.

"It's hard to believe that it would happen in your family. I guess ashamed it happened in the family and that nothing really came from it. You know there was never really any consequences", said Pam Wilcox a Yakima resident. One of her close friends was sexually assaulted.

Pam told us her friend did not want to press charges.

We're told it's common in sexual assault cases. In fact, Y-S-O says rape cases are most often between two family members.
