Senator Cantwell talks farm bill, Hastings in Yakima

Senator Cantwell talks farm bill, Hastings in Yakima
YAKIMA, Wash. -- U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell made her way through Central Washington Thursday. KIMA caught up with her to ask what it would take for a Democrat to win Doc Hastings' congressional seat.

"I think people have to come to the central part of the state, and I think you got to come and talk to people about the issues and hear what's on their minds,” said Cantwell. “I think there's nothing that beats showing up and being here all the time."

The Senator's visit focused on the newly passed farm bill. She said it's an opportunity to promote Central Washington's crops to new markets internationally. It also increases funding for research in specialty crops and invests in a clean plant network to protect produce from possible diseases.

"I think it means the potential of more jobs in the future because when we can get some of these growing markets, if we can get the doors open," said Cantwell.
