YAKIMA, Wash. -- Renovations at the Selah City Hall are taking longer and costing more than expected.

Selah's new city hall was expected to open this month. Now, doors won't open until January.

The price tag rings in at $35 grand. Renovations ran $5 grand over budget. Selah had to pull from general funds to finish construction.

"It's kind of exciting for me because two years ago when I took office, I looked at this space and it was just empty," said Selah Mayor John Gawlik. "And, I said we got to do something with this. I'm really excited about it."

Renovations include additional space, bathrooms, security and technology.

The room will not only serve as the council chamber, but will also act as the courthouse and provide space for the school district to hold meetings.
