SELAH, Wash. -- Selah is trying build its reputation for wine. A new winery called Lookout Point opened its doors. It also has a new tasting room in Downtown Yakima.
Lookout Point is the third winery in Selah.
Southard Winery has been open there for several years.
Their owner says the competition brings everyone more business.
"A friend who I respect a lot asked why I don't grow wine in France or the Willamette Valley. And the only good answer I had is, 'this is home.' And I want to see if I can make interesting, soulful wine here," said Souythard Winery owner Scott Southard.
Selah is not necessarily ideal for growing most grapes because of its elevation.
Southard Winery has an estate Riesling.
