Minimal amounts of asbestos found in Selah grocery store

Minimal amounts of asbestos found in Selah grocery store
SELAH, Wash. -- A Selah grocery store was closed for asbestos testing. It had only minimal amounts of the toxic fiber. Save-On-Foods has been closed since Wednesday.

The Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency tested the building as standard procedure because the owner is remodeling. But, officials said the store never hired someone to check for asbestos before starting the work.

Shoppers are surprised to see the store is closed.

"Didn't know it would just totally close it down because a lot of places that do re-modeling, they still stay open during that time," said Phyllis Schwisow.

The clean air agency said the store will clean up the asbestos. And, will come back to verify it's gone. The store will be allowed to open if it gets the all clear.
