Remodel of Yakima County Courthouse is completed
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- The massive remodel of the Yakima County Courthouse is finished. Upgrades are expected to save taxpayers tens of thousands a year in energy costs.

Yakima County used a grant for some of the work. The remaining three-million dollars came from the real estate excise tax. A new exterior and new windows will help provide better insulation.

"Taxpayers are gaining now from those energy savings at today's costs. Who knows what the energy costs will be ten years from now," said Yakima County Commissioner, Mike Leita.

Yakima County wants the remodeled building to be more focused on court activity. Leaders hope to relocate administrative services to another building when the county can afford to.
