Regional nurses survive mandatory layoffs

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Recent negotiations between Yakima Regional Medical Center and the Washington State Nurses union prevented any mandatory layoffs.

The union says six nurses took a voluntary layoff and will be put on the recall list.

The agreement kept other nurses from cuts in pay or hours.

The hospital also offers education credits to help some become registered nurses.

Regional won't comment if there are plans to release those who don't take the credits.
