YAKIMA, Wash.-- Animal shelter managers are trying to find the thief who took a two month old puppy from the Central Washington Humane Society. Volunteers had named the Shih Tzu terrier mix, "Mimi". She was taken about a week after being found in Toppenish with two other puppies. Shelter employees think someone hid Mimi under their jacket or in a purse.

"We're devastated whenever one of our pets is stolen simply because we worry about the animal. Are they going get it spayed or neutered? Are they going to keep it in a fenced yard? Are they going to love it or did they just take the puppy because it was cute?" said Patsy Dye, the Humane Society's shelter operations director.

Two dogs were stolen from the Humane Society last year, but cameras caught the culprits and the dogs wound up in good homes. The cameras did not catch the crime this time.
