YAKIMA, Wash. -- Poor air quality is affecting schools here in the Yakima Valley. All outdoor sports practices were canceled Tuesday for Yakima Schools.

The Department of Ecology said the air wasn't healthy.

Recess periods and gym classes were also held indoors.

Poor air quality has canceled sports matches from the lower Yakima Valley all the way up to Cle Elum.

"I think it's actually, it's better to be more cautious than not cautious enough," said Yakima teacher Amy Noble.

The recent fires have made a big impact on the air quality.

Yakima likely won't see much improvement until they are out.
