Kittitas County deputies now have a double murder case on their hands.
The victims were identified as 37-year-old Michael Eby and 35-year-old Ryan Pederson, both from Yakima.
Detectives found Pederson shot to death in the backseat of a Nissan near Roza Dam Friday then later came across Eby dead inside the trunk of the same car.
"Unbelievable, I just couldn't believe it happened to him," said Gregg Frazier.
Frazier is a long-time family friend of the Pedersons and said he's known Ryan for years.
"Big heart, really," said Frazier. "As a kid, he was really into sports. He really loved being around people. It makes no sense. I mean, why are they out there, what's going on?"
Detectives say the car belonged to Eby's father. He told police his son borrowed it Thursday and never returned.
A driver passing by called police after spotting the car off the road in the Yakima Canyon.
"He wasn't stiff so it hadn't have been a long time since he had been there," said Kathy Tucker, who saw the car off the road. "The car was still going and I checked to see if there was any vitals and there was none."
Relatives of the victims didn't want to speak with KIMA on camera. The Pedersons said they were still numb; Eby's family said it's a big loss for his kids.
Everyone who knows them wants answers.
"They want to see their son," said Frazier. "They want to start some kind of process and there's just no information yet."
There's no indication from investigators of a motive or if they have any suspects for this double murder.
