3 dogs rescued from canals in one day
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Animal control officers have their hands full after rescuing three dogs from irrigation canals here in the Valley. They scooped up a black lab from a canal near Moxee.
Crews also rescued a yellow lab and a shepherd from a canal in the lower valley. They say the three canal rescues in one day is what they normally do in a full year.
Officers think the two labs have owners because one has a collar and the other is neutered.
"They're scared,” said Animal Control Officer, Ben Zigan. “They don't know where they are at. They don't know what's going on. Who knows how long they were in the canal before the got spotted.”
Animal Control thinks the dogs were playing or trying to drink from the canal when they fell into the water on their own. If the owners don't claim the dogs within 48 hours they will be available for adoption.
