Naches fire station wants replacement building

Naches fire station wants replacement building
NACHES, Wash. -- A fire station in Naches wants to build a million dollar facility.

The Nile-Cliffdell Fire District's main station is more than 30 years old. There's not enough garage space for all the trucks.

The fire chief hopes to pay for a new building with a Community Development Block Grant. It's not clear if that can cover the entire cost.

"Our firefighters have to work in an environment, in a learning environment that is not very conducive to training, and the station is simply too small to meet our needs anymore," said Chief Steve Smith.

Yakima County leaders support the idea and will apply for the grant on behalf of the Nile-Cliffdell fire district.
