YAKIMA -- The Department of Transportation started early. Crews loaded trucks with a mixture of salt and sand and hit the interstate.

Maintenance Supervisor Scott Clark says crews are working around the clock, but it's hard to keep up when the snow keeps falling.

"Cars, pickups, the semis are usually having a hard time getting around period and we're not able to keep up with snow," says Clark.

We learned if you are hopping on the interstates, it's always better to take the road more traveled. Here in Yakima, that's the right lane.

"We work from the center line to the right and get the right lane cleared," says driver, Jerry Wilder. "Then we go to the center line to the left."

Crews tell KIMA they're working with Washington State Patrol by calling in accidents and spinouts. In just a day, they saw more than 70 snow-related incidents. Only one involved someone getting hurt.

Crews will continue to work through the night. The call once again is don't drive unless you have to and if you do, slow down.

Crews say if you see them plowing, it's best to stay behind them.
